The Queen at the wheel The Huffington Post has proof the Queen still drives herself about. They've got a great pic of her driving a Range Rover -wearing a hoodie. Marvellous.

Gillian and Eunos Roadster in Monte Carlo Here's a picture of a happy woman: Gillian Fearon sent me this photo of herself in her 1995 Eunos Roadster on an MX-5 Monte Carlo route tour. Andrew and Gillian Fearon are fellow MX-5 and classic car enthusiasts and were supremely helpful while I was writing all three versions of my book, MX-5/Miata Enthusiasts Guide. Gillian is affiliated with insurance broker NBJ United Kingdom Limited (who are authorised and regulated by the FSA). NBJ can offer classic car quotations for cars aged 15 years and over, with salvage rights remaining with the insured on cars more than 20 years old. To get a quote, you can call the motor team on 020 8290 6900 or email [email protected] quoting reference NBJ/GF1. The website is: http://www.nbj.co.uk/private-clients.aspx
Setting off for a day out with my nieces aged four and six, I get in behind the wheel, my husband is in the passenger seat. "Oh," says the older one. "Are you driving?" I confirm that this is the reason for sitting with a wheel in my hands.
Silence. "Is that because Richard has a bad shoulder?" Partly it is, but not entirely. "We take turns to drive." I say. Another silence. "If Daddy's here, he drives." she says. I'd guessed that. So nothing's been said, or intended, but the lesson has already been learned. If a woman drives when there's a man in the car, it's a little bit odd. Let's hear it for a woman driver making a difference. Despite having a high-pressure job as Regional Director, West, at housing association Paradigm Housing Group – and being a mum – a colleague of mine, Tracey Gray, volunteered to be a Games Maker at London 2012. She says "I was part of the mobility team, so I drove people with mobility issues around the Olympic Park, hired out wheelchairs and scooters and did loads of signposting for people. I loved it – one of the best experiences I’ve had." Well done to you, Tracey, as everyone has said, the 'Games Makers' really did what it said on the tin.
DesirĂ© Wilson, the only woman to win an F1 race I enjoyed a long chat with the supremely talent Desiré Wilson for the Goodwood Social Media website (launching soon, honest). I interviewed her first a decade ago at the Festival of Speed., and she’s a lovely lady. She’s also a truly great driver, and she could have set the track alight had she not been a) a woman and b) South African in the 1970s. These days she and her husband run a successful business designing race tracks. They’re working on several in Asia, including one for the owner of Volvo China and Geely. It’s great that Des is able to simply enjoy driving some great cars every year, both up the hill at the Festival of Speed and on the serpentine Goodwood Circuit at the Revival. She always puts on a great show, whether she’s behind the wheel of a 105E Anglia, Daytona Coupe, or Julian Balme’s 1954 Lincoln. I’ll add a link once the story appears. Wow, we went and signed on the line for a new Mini One Diesel this morning. Then two nice people rang up, came to see our Cooper and left us a pile of cash.
It hasn't all been as easy as that, however. I'll write up the whole exhausting story when I've recovered from the surprise and excitement. Right now, I've got bubbly to drink and Olympics to watch. True Blood Sooki: "I know you're a badass werewolf, but you drive like a girl."
