A leaky oil seal was allowing oil to drip on to the clutch - should have been a cinch to replace, you just slid the engine forwards. But when the later grille went in, along with a strip of solid metal across the front, that ceased to be an option. The engine had to be lifted out with a crane. I seem to remember we set fire to the clutch plate to get rid of the oil, then put it back.
