Support Saudi women drivers!

The planned day of action to defy the driving ban June 17 has been postponed to Friday 22 following the death of Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz.

My blood boiled when I read the Observer's story today about the continuing struggle of Saudi women who want to drive.
   King Abdullah, 87, has been quoted as saying "the day will come" when women are allowed to drive, but that day doesn't seem to be getting any nearer.
   Apparently the reason the clerics don't want women to drive is that they're be able to go out into the world, meet men and bad things will happen.
   They forget that one reason women want to go out is to work and earn money to feed and cloth their children and take them to school. It's poorer women and their families who suffer. The rich ones get away with employing a driver
- even though he's not a family member.
   It's shocking in this century that a woman risks being whipped for driving a car. We need to support the protesters any way we can.
